Company History

Space Optics Systems was founded in 2013 by Mirsad Sarajlic. A curious engineer in microtechnics who wanted some new challenges and projects in his life. He created the company through the name of Swiss Optics Systems. The goal of SOS was to put consultancy services at customer dispositions in particular in optomechanical designs.

The first project was not related to space but to railway industry. After the first success achievement of it, many others came from different fields like biology, high power lasers, biomedicine, astronomy, coffee machines & others. In every project, optical and mechanical designs were needed and was an exciting adventure that Mirsad was living with.

In 2015, SOS was involved in the design of the alignment bench and calibration of the CHEOPS Swiss satellite. We then started to build a strong experience in astronomy and aerospace industry during which we have participated in many projects related to ground telescopes like for VLT, E-ELT, DAG, ESO 3.6M, through the design of instruments or equipment and then for ESA through Ariane 6, CHEOPS, QUARTZ, EAGLE-1 and others.

During all the different projects, SOS had the chance to work with different experts which evolves today in a close collaboration creating a competences pole that can covers the most complex projects SOS has.

SOS changed its name for Space Optics Systems in 2023 in order to better represent its values and visions.
